About this Event

PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY OUR CUSTOMER LIFT IS CURRENTLY OUT OF ORDER AND THEREFORE THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BROWNE ROOM IS ONLY ACCESSIBLY BY STAIRS. WE APOLIGISE FOR THE INCONVENIANCE.

Jenny will focus on Dr Isabel Frances Grant (b. Edinburgh 1887-1983) and her photography, in particular in relation to the I.F. Grant Photographic Collection held at Edinburgh Central Library. Jenny will also speak about the recent exhibition 'Glean: Early 20th century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland', at City Art Centre, Edinburgh. There will be a chance to see some examples of both Grant's work, and other women photographers, from the IF Grant Photographic Collection.

Dr IF Grant was the founder of Am Fasgadh (‘The Shelter’), a museum bringing together material culture from the Highlands and Islands. She housed these artefacts in three iterations of Am Fasgadh in Iona, Laggan and Kingussie. Am Fasgadh is now the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore.

Jenny Brownrigg is a curator and writer. She is Exhibitions Director at The Glasgow School of Art.

Please do join us for an insightful discussion that makes up one of many events marking the 10th anniversary of the Harpies, Fechters and Quines events programme at Central Library.

The programme is a collaboration between Edinburgh women’s group, the Bonnie Fechters, Glasgow Women’s Library and City of Edinburgh Libraries. The aim is to highlight the importance of women’s contribution, especially Scottish women’s contribution, to society past and present. This year the theme focuses on ‘feisty women’. These are women, past and present, who have faced a challenge in society and risen to it.

The programme runs from Saturday 3rd June to Friday 9th June. These are free events for adults aged 18+. See our Eventbrite page for details of all events taking place.
