About this Event
Günter "Baby" Sommer and Raymond MacDonald @ Goethe-Institut
Join us for an exciting event celebrating the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This special occasion features two remarkable artists, Günter "Baby" Sommer and Raymond MacDonald, whose unique approaches to music promise an extraordinary experience. Performing together for over 20 years, they have released two critically acclaimed CDs together and toured all over Europe, both as a Duo and in large ensembles including "The New Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Breath".
The event begins with a conversation with Günter, where he will share insights from his career as a musician and jazz artist in East Germany. This will be followed by a duo concert.
Günter "Baby" Sommer (drums, percussion), born in Dresden, is one of the pioneers of European Free Jazz. With a prolific career spanning over 60 years, he has developed a unique approach to percussion—sometimes theatrical, always captivating, and filled with charisma, charm and vituosity. He is joined by Raymond MacDonald, a saxophonist, whose playing has been described as "breathtaking", "begulling" and "wonderous". He is a composer and academic and has released over 60 albums and toured and broadcast worldwide. He is a founding member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and Professor of Music Psychology and Improvisation at the University of Edinburgh.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness the fusion of these two extraordinary talents!
The event starts at 6:00 PM with a conversation with Günter Sommer, followed by a 15-minute break. The concert begins around 6:45 PM.
