GVL Jazz: Tish Oney Quartet
International performing artist, author, and composer Dr. Tish Oney tours as a symphony pops and big band soloist, jazz vocalist, voice pedagogue, and musicologist. An avid arranger and composer, Oney has arranged several hundred pieces for jazz combo including contemporary jazz, Great American Songbook standards, and her originals. An esteemed conductor, she often works with professional, university, church or community choirs, vocal jazz ensembles, and solo singers as a guest clinician and master teacher.
Oney has performed and/or recorded with scores of renowned jazz and classical artists and has headlined at hundreds of performance venues worldwide. She has performed as soloist with the Detroit Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Williamsburg Symphony, Aiken Symphony, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Symphoria, the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, Army Voices, Army Blues (Pershing’s Own), SC Bach Choir, North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Greenville Chorale, Greenville Jazz Collective Big Band, Madrigalia, the three-time Grammy-winning Gregg Smith Singers, and other outstanding ensembles. She has headlined at international jazz festivals, Las Vegas casinos, and major stages throughout the world. She has appeared as headlining performer at many jazz hotspots including The Jazz Bakery (Los Angeles), The Jazz Corner (Hilton Head Island), Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, and the off-Broadway Triad Theatre (New York). An experienced film, stage, and television actress, Oney imbues her live performances with dramatic power and warmth.
Dr. Oney serves as Director of Education for GVL Jazz/Greenville Jazz Collective, co-directing the Youth Jazz Ensemble and spearheading new concert series and music educational initiatives for the Greenville community. Currently the mentoring chair for the Jazz Education Network Research Interest Group (JENRInG) she is also a peer reviewer for the professional journal Jazz Education in Research and Practice, and a charter member of the Editorial Board for the NATS-Rowman & Littlefield Books Program. A lifetime church musician, Dr. Oney enjoys serving as Director of Music Ministry at Open Hearts United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC. She volunteers as a Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador and works to bring healing through music to underserved children in foster care.
