Guideline for Locomotor Recovery in Acute and Subacute Stroke
About this Event
SUMMARY
This Research Connection Event will present the practice recommendations for the "Clinical Practice Guideline to Improve Locomotor Function in Individuals with Acute and Subacute stroke (CVA)". The purpose of this Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) is to provide concise recommendations, supported by a systematic summary of available literature, of the efficacy of interventions to improve walking ability in individuals less than 6 months post stroke. The primary outcome categories are walking capacity, walking independence, functional mobility, and daily walking. A literature search yielded 3645 manuscripts for screening. 964 underwent a full text review for inclusion/exclusion criteria and pertinent study parameter identification, and 152 were ultimately summarized for clinical recommendations. Risk of Bias and certainty of findings were assessed for each study, and meta-analyses were conducted for each intervention/construct and outcome measure combination as well as for each subgroup analysis. An original algorithm developed by our group was utilized to determine final recommendations. The presentation will include a brief summary of the methodology, a presentation of the clinical practice recommendations, audience engagement, and a request for audience feedback.
