Guided Walk: Summertime in the Forest at Ivy Creek

Join Charlottesville Area Tree Steward Emily Ferguson on an informational and enjoyable walk to mark the anniversary of Darwin's theory of natural selection at the beautiful Ivy Creek Natural Area.
On this interactive walk the adaptations that make trees so successful will be discussed. Point out whatever catches your eye: bark, buds, roots, leaves, seeds, etc. and Emily will identify the tree and explain the function of the feature. Then you get to decide: is the trait necessary, or just useful?
If you are already a tree enthusiast, please bring your favorite tree ID book, hand lens, and/or binoculars as aids. The hike will be on unimproved trails that can be muddy. We will not be walking fast but wearing hiking boots or sneakers is recommended, Dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and food if necessary. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
