Members: Free
Non-Members: Sliding scale $3-$10 / person
Registration required by Wednesday, October 14th. Please call 920-793-4007 or email Jess at [email protected].
Join Dr. Poli, Professor of Biology and Cannabis Studies at Roanoke College, and our staff for a guided exploration of the fascinating world of bryophytes, the group of plants that includes mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. During this hike, participants will learn how bryophytes differ from vascular plants, identify common moss and liverwort species, and explore the important ecological roles they play in nutrient cycling, water retention, soil formation, and wildlife habitat. We will examine bryophytes growing on logs, rocks, tree bark, and forest soils, using hand lenses to observe their intricate structures and adaptations.
What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a hand lens (if available), water, and a sense of curiosity.
Trail TBD. A staff member will contact a day or two prior with meeting location and trail conditions.
