Learn about the wildlife, history and management of this beautiful heathland reserve on a guided walk with a warden.
About this Event

Join the wardens from Cavenham Heath National Nature Reserve for a special guided walk exploring the tranquil Brecks landscape. During the walk, you will discover more about the wildlife, history, and management of this beautiful heathland reserve. This will include:

  • The importance of heathland landscapes and how they are managed
  • Rabbits and their history in Breckland
  • Military History and its affect on the current landscape
  • Heathland butterflies and some impacts of Climate Change

In September, the site is home to roosting Stone-curlew, and so we will also be keeping our eyes peeled throughout the walk for a sighting of these enigmatic birds.

Cavenham Heath is a brilliant example of a thriving Brecks habitat, with heath and grassland, woodland and fen, and bordering the River Lark. The reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, managed by Natural England.

This event is hosted as part of the Brecks Outdoor Festival, a two week celebration of the landscapes and heritage of the Norfolk and Suffolk Brecks. The Brecks Outdoor Festival (7th-22nd September) is hosted by the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme with thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
