Guided Tree Walk and Explore in the John C. Pair Horticultural Center

The John C. Pair Horticultural Center plays a critical role as the only research center in Kansas dedicated to nursery, landscape and ornamental crops, providing vital data to help trees survive the state's extreme weather.
Operated under Kansas State University, its tree research focuses on several key areas: environmental stress testing, selection and evaluation, breeding and cultivar testing and community forestry support.
Research at the Center led to the development of the "Preferred Trees for South Central Kansas" guide, which nurseries and homeowners rely on. The Center developed the John Pair Maple, known for its optimal fall color and heat tolerance, and named after the center's namesake, Dr. John C. Pair.
The Center serves as the home base for the South-Central Kansas Forest Service Community Forestry Program, bridging the gap between scientific research and urban tree management.
The 'tree walk' will be led by Kody Kraemer, Kansas Forest Service Community Forester and certified arborist.
