Join us for a guided tour in English of the exhibition "Masaaki Ohya. Mysteries of Nature"⚫ Masaaki Ohya’s solo exhibition at the Department of Modern Art of the National Museum in Gdańsk presents the oeuvre of this distinguished Japanese artist, whose work has not been widely known in Poland to date.
The exhibition at the Abbotts’ Palace will showcase seventy prints produced over the last two decades. Four cycles show the dominant topoi in the artist’s work: Nature, alongside the Cycle of Life and Death of people, animals and plants. The eternal cycle of birth and the slow but inevitable passage of time are his enduring pursuits. Masaaki Ohya believes that every life in the Universe has its purpose, which we do not know; that is the secret of every being: human, animal or plant.
〰️ The artist creates works using the intaglio printing method (etching, aquatint, mezzotint, drypoint), drawing inspiration from natural forms, shapes and phenomena. They mutually permeate to determine the power of the message, making his graphics into philosophical treatises, as it were.
The works presented in Gdańsk come from the artist’s studio.
