This guided hike has a nominal non-refundable $15 registration fee to secure your spot.The Stairway to Heaven out-and-back hike is 2.5 miles and 800’ of elevation up and down.The route heads into the woods from the trailhead and quickly becomes rocky as it follows the Appalachian Trail up Wawayanda Mountain. About halfway up is the first view from Annie's Bluff. Continuing, you come to understand the reason for this trail's name as you climb the rocky stairs placed there by dedicated NY/NJ Trail Conference volunteers. Once we reach the humungous rock cairn at the top, we'll turn left to Pinwheel’s Vista, where there is a large area from which to enjoy the view of Pochuck Mountain, the Kittatinny Mountains beyond it, and the Vernon Valley of farms below. On a clear day, you can see the High Point State Park Monument! When we've had our fill, we will retrace our steps back down to our vehicles.The parking and hike details are emailed after registration.
