About this Event
Guided Group Forest Therapy
Bridget is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about creating spaces for healing, connection, and reflection through mindful experiences in nature. With a background in mental health and a deep appreciation for the restorative power of the natural world, Bridget weaves together therapeutic principles, mindfulness, and nature-based practices to support spiritual and emotional well-being and personal growth.
Through guided forest therapy experiences, Bridget invites participants to slow down, reconnect with their senses, and cultivate a deeper relationship with themselves and the living world around them. Her offerings are grounded in compassion, curiosity, and the belief that nature can be a powerful companion in our journey toward balance and restoration.
What is forest therapy?
Forest therapy, also known as forest bathing, is a gentle, guided practice that invites you to slow down, awaken your senses, and reconnect with the natural world. Rooted in the principles of ecotherapy, it offers an opportunity to experience the restorative presence of trees and nature in a mindful, intentional way. Supported by decades of research, forest therapy has been shown to nurture physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being, offering a peaceful space to rest, reflect, and restore. To do so in community with others and alongside a guide enhances these benefits.
The Location: Navigate to the Thomas. C Savage Visitor Center. We will meet by the picnic table between the visitor center and the parking lot. Parking is free. From there, we will head to the Pike Island hiking trail.
Pike Island is a place of deep cultural and historical significance, especially to the Dakota people, who know it as Wíta Tȟáŋka (Big Island). As we gather here, we do so with respect for the land, its original stewards, and the many stories it holds, recognizing it as more than a beautiful natural space but also a place of remembrance, resilience, and connection.
WHAT TO BRING: an easily transportable camp chair or blanket to sit on, notebook and writing utensil, water, snack for yourself if you'd like, shoes and clothes you can wear on or slightly off a trail (consider weather changes; sun hat, rain jacket, umbrella, layers). I will have extra sunscreen and bug spray for all who choose to use it.
ACCESSIBILITY & WHAT TO EXPECT: a very short hike, time to reflect and journal, time for sharing and communing in a circle, and a deep sense of calm. This specific event is for adults 18+. Those with mobility assistance needs or wheelchair users may contact the park (Fort Snelling State Park) to inquire about borrowing a motorized wheelchair.
WEATHER: This event will happen rain or shine; light rain can add an exceptional quality to the experience. If weather is severe, the event will be rescheduled and tickets will be refunded. Please bring clothing options that can accommodate different kinds of weather.
DISCLAIMER: Although Bridget is a psychotherapist, this is not a psychotherapy group. Participation in this forest therapy experience is voluntary, and each participant is responsible for their own health, safety, and personal well-being throughout the event. By attending, participants acknowledge the inherent risks of spending time outdoors and agree to assume those risks, releasing the facilitator from liability for injuries, losses, or damages except where prohibited by law.
