Cam works for the Public Information team for DPIRD with a role focusing on stakeholder and community engagement. His previous role within DPIRD was as a field surveillance officer in the response to the PSHB which has given him close experience with the beetle. Cam is a nature lover so spreading information about how to protect Perth’s urban canopy and prevent the spread of PSHB is a great privilege to him.Cam will be bringing samples of the beetle in resin and also samples of the wood from trees it has previously infested (these sample are completely safe and the wood has been treated). Also informational materials and magnifier cards for identification of the PSHB to give to people attending.
After this presentation people should have the knowledge of how to detect and report PSHB through information on signs and symptoms of an infestation and a guide on what resources are available for reporting and how to find such resources. He will also cover some background information on the PSHB for an example where it came from and our working hypothesis of how it arrived in Perth. What DPIRD is doing in response to the pest working within a nationally coordinated response plan and some information on PSHB hosts (infected trees) its impacts and its potential for impact if we don’t all do our part and contain it to the quarantine zone.
