I'm excited to have been asked by the Reverend Kurt Weiser to preach and celebrate at the parish that supported my ordination journey. On this special Sunday, we observe the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 17), focusing on Jesus’s teaching about seating arrangements at a wedding. He advised choosing the lower seats and inviting the “poor and lame.” Does this contrast with what we see in our world today? I wonder what Jesus would think about it!
It has been several years since I last had the chance to worship with the people of God at St. Paul’s. As many of you know, I have been serving alongside the congregation at the Episcopal Parish of St. Clement in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, for nearly 18 months. Before that, I served in the Northeast of Philadelphia with the wonderful people at Grace Episcopal Church and the Incarnation & Holy Innocents St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
