Social workers have varying levels of understanding regarding the unique needs and experiences of autistic individuals. In this lecture, Professor Hanna Bertilsdotter Rosqvist will introduce a neuroaffirmative approach to social work, emphasizing strategies to prevent autistic burnout, promote everyday energy management, and foster peer support and personal research. Associate Professor Wenche Bekken will comment on Bertilsdotter Rosqvist’s lecture.
PRESENTATION
Hanna Bertilsdotter Rosqvist is a sociologist, a Professor in Social Work, Södertörn university and a senior lecturer in social work, Karlstad university, Sweden. She is engaged in developing theories and research methods in Neurodiversity studies. She is the editor of Neurodiversity Studies. A New Critical Paradigm (together with Nick Chown & Anna Stenning, 2020, Routledge); Exploring Autistic Sexualities, Relationality, and Genders: Living Under a Double Rainbow (together with Anna Day & Meaghan Krazinski), The Palgrave Handbook of Research Methods and Ethics in Neurodiversity Studies (together with David Jackson-Perry) and Neuroaffirmativa perspektiv på autism och ADHD i skola, vård och omsorg (together with Lill Hultman, in press Studentlitteratur). Currently she is working on an edited book Neuroinclusive Social Work: education, practice and research (together Lesley Deacon and Jenni Guthrie, aimed at publication with Palgrave 2026)
