Guest Lecture & Book Signing:Montana Modernists w/Dr. Michele Corriel

Free and open to the public
This program is meant to align with the museum's exhibition of permanent collection works of art, as many of the works currently on exhibit feature works by Montana Modernists including Theodore Waddell, Gennie DeWeese, Bob DeWeese, Val Knight, Jim Poor, Freeman Butts, and more. This lecture will provide a distinct perspective about the Art History of Montana and will be presented by Dr. Michele Corriel, a specialist in the field of Montana Modernism.
Copies of her book "Montana Modernists: Shifting Perceptions of Western Art" will be available for purchase in the museum Gift Shop. Dr. Corriel will be available to sign her book after the lecture.
About Michele Corriel, PhD.:
Michele Corriel is an award-winning freelance art writer contributing to Big Sky Journal, Western Art & Architecture, Montana Quarterly and other art and culture publications in the West. She is a freelance curator working with galleries and museums consulting in the area of Modern Art and its effects on contemporary work. Michele holds a Master’s in Art History and a PhD in American Art. She is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Montana State University.
Her most recent book, Montana Modernists: Shifting Perceptions of Western Art, garnered four awards, including the High Plains Book Award, the Big Sky Book Award, and a national award from the Western History Association.
