Sara Wordofa, owner and operator of Katar River, has been cooking for family and community since she was a child growing up in Arsi, Ethiopia. She learned to cook from her mother, and at just 19 years old, while living in a Kenyan refugee camp, she began cooking nourishing meals for others in the camp to help keep people healthy.
Nearly 20 years later, Sara continues to share the food and traditions of her home with the Twin Cities community. Katar River officially opened on Minnehaha Avenue in 2008 and has become a beloved part of Minneapolis's vibrant Lake Street community.
