This program will be performed by guest artists Rossitza Jekova-Goza (violin) and Choong-ha Nam (piano), faculty members at West Texas A&M University, together with Christoph Wagner (cello), professor of cello at the University of New Mexico.
The program features two masterpieces of the piano trio repertoire: Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 67 and Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio in B-flat Major, D. 898 (Op. 99).
Written in the shadow of personal and national tragedy, Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 is a powerful work of haunting beauty, emotional intensity, and biting irony. From its ghostly opening to the driving, dance-like finale, the piece offers a deeply moving and dramatic musical journey
