Guelph Breakfast Series

Poor air quality is the top environmental burden on health, globally associated with 8.8 million premature deaths per year. In Canada alone this represents 14,400 mortalities and $114B/year in social costs. This talk will summarize our ongoing efforts to advance the knowledge needed to identify sources and characterise the resulting human exposure. I will present a selection of case studies related to traffic, communities, transit, and street sweeping. These cases will illustrate the range of approaches we are using to directly measure and thereby better understand “real world” air quality, so as to mitigate these adverse health impacts.
