Since 2010, Guateque was the social to attend, beginning in Asheville and officially arriving in Charlotte in 2013, becoming one of the early Latin dance socials helping shape the Carolina scene.
During its first year in Charlotte, Guateque introduced vinyl-only nights, bringing the authentic sound of salsa dura and prioritizing what mattered most: Music for dancers, community, and real social dancing.
Known for welcoming dancers, performers, and instructors from across state lines, Guateque became a gathering point for those who came to dance first.
Now, after many years, its original host DJ Carmona brings Guateque back, reconnecting the Queen City and surrounding sister cities for a new era.
✨ Guateque is back and the movement is growing — reconnecting dancers, creating new memories, and bringing everyone together on the dance floor under the Guateque vibe.
As Guateque grows again, expect future editions featuring out-of-state performers, guest instructors, and special dance experiences, just like the original years.
