The Arc of the Quad Cities Area is hosting a Parent Learning Series focused on providing the tools parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities need to be the most effective. Attendees will learn how to create and protect the life you wish for your child, sibling, or loved one.
Topic: Guardianship versus Powers of Attorney
When: October 14th from 7:00-8:30pm
Many special needs children continue to rely on their parents even after 18, a parent’s legal ability to make important decisions for their child ends when the child reaches that age and the right to make financial, educational, and medical choices shifts to the newly minted adult. This can be concerning for any parent but is especially problematic if you are a parent to a special needs child. There are options available under the law to ensure you can still make decisions for your special needs child even after their 18th birthday. Please join us as we explore these two options so you can better identify what works best for your loved one.
All workshops will be from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. with the option to join via Zoom or in person at The Arc of the Quad Cities, Arc Building at 4016 9th St. Rock Island, IL. Refreshments provided for in-person attendees. All sessions are free to participate.
