Guaranteed Income Works National Tour Features It's Basic Documentary in Louisville

Join Russell: A Place of Promise, Metro United Way, and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income for the highly anticipated premiere of the “It's Basic” documentary as part of the Guaranteed Income Works National Tour. This free in-person event will be held at the Norton Sports and Learning Center at 3029 W Muhammad Ali Blvd, Louisville, KY 40212. Get ready to be inspired and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of guaranteed income.

“It's Basic” is directed by Emmy award-winning independent film director Marc Levin, with Stockton, California, Mayor Michael Tubbs serving as executive producer. This new documentary introduces viewers to participants of guaranteed income pilots led by Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.

Immediately before the film screening, Brandon McReynolds, Deputy Director of Commonwealth Alliance, will facilitate a discussion with Congressmember Morgan McGarvey (KY-3), former Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, and Cities United’s Executive Director Anthony Smith, who are champions of guaranteed income. You will have the opportunity to learn more about YALift!, Louisville’s own guaranteed income pilot project implemented in the Russell, Smoketown, and California neighborhoods.

Set against the backdrop of widening income gaps, politics, and growing social concern, “It's Basic” shows how guaranteed income pilots impacted the lives of families across the country. We know that if more people see the stories of guaranteed income recipients and learn about how life-changing guaranteed income can be for families, support for the movement will only grow.
