Information & development session for SHW staff and students interested in being part of our GSF Community Day in Clarice Pears Sat 10 June
About this Event

Director of Glasgow Science Festival (GSF), Debbie McNeil and School of Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Community Engagement Coordinator, Susan Grant will facilitate this session for SHW staff and students to find out more about the GSF and the proposal for a community day in Clarice Pears on Sat 10th June.

Our event will be led by the School's Community Engagement with Research Group and we have applied to GSF for this event to form part of this year's programme. It will be the first chance for many within our university and local community to see inside our new building especially those who have been part of the consultation to develop Byres Community Hub and will help build links for continued community engagement.

This session is for SHW staff and students interested in

  • volunteering for this event to help with organisation, marketing, set up and logistics on the day
  • supporting the permanent exhibits in Byres Community Hub in Clarice Pears and the temporary public health exhibition
  • bringing an existing public engagement activity to the event (interactive table top activity, tour, talk, film, art, music - open to all suggestions)
  • developing a new activity which can be used at this event and beyond

We are especially looking for activities which fit into this year's GSF 'Glasgow's Looking Forward' theme and provide inclusive, fun and creative learning experiences for family audiences.

There will be an opportunity to share your early activity ideas and get some feedback and support to develop these further at this session. Once we start to get an idea of content and space available, we will also be extending an invitation to groups within the wider university who work within health and wellbeing and community partners to be part of the programme for this event. We are planning to have all content confirmed by the end of March.

If you have questions, please contact [email protected] or you can contact your research group lead for this event:

  • GPPC - Hannah Scobie & Karen Wood
  • HEHTA - Ryan Mulholland
  • MHW - Jala Rizeq
  • PH - Michael Fleming
  • RCB - Lisa Hall
  • SPSHU - Gillian Bell

Please note that this workshop is expected to take place in the Advanced Research Centre but we will confirm the room asap.
