Empowering Nonprofits Through Tech: A Panel Discussion
Start Garden (2 Fulton St. W, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503)
Monday, April 27th 2026, 6pm - 8pm
DESCRIPTION
Do you work for or are on the board of directors of a small local nonprofit organization? Then you likely know how challenging it can be to juggle the many aspects of running that organization: everything from outreach to fundraising to managing volunteers, not to mention the business aspects of maintaining one’s tax exempt status.
The good news is: you’re not alone.
This month at GRWebDev, we’ll hear from a panel of professionals who work in or with local nonprofits right here in Grand Rapids. We’ll hear about technology, resources, and strategies that have helped - or hindered - their work in the community, as well as low or no cost solutions that can help bootstrap one’s organization. Join us at The Vault at Start Garden on Monday, June 22nd at 6pm ET for an evening of knowledge sharing, connection, and open conversation.
This event is FREE and open to those working within the nonprofit space as well as those interested in learning more about nonprofit resources and opportunities.
OUR PANELISTS
is a West Michigan-based technology leader and the Director of Development and Software Delivery at Fusionary, where he manages a diverse portfolio of digital client engagements. Deeply committed to the nonprofit sector, he serves on multiple boards and has recently begun leveraging AI-assisted development tools to build and launch web platforms pro bono for community organizations. Joe believes that the right technology, in the right hands, is one of the most practical ways a community can close the gaps that separate people from the resources they need.
is an independent website developer and owner of One Black Crayon, where he focuses on brand strategy, communications, and crafting a digital presence for a diverse client base of small businesses and organizations. Day to day you can find Frederick supporting the oldest community coworking space in downtown Grand Rapids and assisting individuals and nonprofits with their technical needs.
is the Executive Director and CEO of the West Grand Neighborhood Organization (WGNO), a community-based nonprofit dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods, advancing public safety, and improving quality of life on Grand Rapids' West Side. A U.S. Navy Corpsman veteran, she brings a service-centered leadership approach grounded in resilience, collaboration, and community empowerment. With a Master of Social Work and extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, advocacy, and community development, Annette works to build sustainable solutions that connect residents with resources, opportunities, and a stronger voice in shaping their future.
OUR MODERATOR
is the founding Product Owner of CM Launch Lab, where she leverages her extensive background in product operations and business analysis to help businesses and individuals optimize their tools and operations. An active member of Women Build AI, she recently developed VOC Validator, a free tool designed to help organizations make sense of customer feedback quickly and easily. Carla is a dedicated advocate for tech equity, believing that creative problem-solving and great technology should be accessible to all businesses, regardless of budget.
