Grupo Sumak de Philadelphia at Eakins Oval Minifest

This performance is part of The Oval Minifest, three festival days this August in Eakins Oval. The Oval Minifest is organized by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Parkway Council.

Grupo Sumak de Philadelphia is a tropical psychedelic band made up of six musicians from six different Latin American countries, bringing together six migration stories that intersect in Philadelphia, where the project was formed.
The band met in Philadelphia — a city shaped by hard work, underground culture, and immigrant communities. That environment is deeply present in the music: Latin American rhythms and psychedelic textures infused with the raw, unpolished grit that defines the city. Songs are performed in Spanish, as that is our mother tongue.
They play psychedelic cumbia inspired by Peru's chicha tradition. Their high-energy performances feature gems from the vast Latin American cumbia catalog, reimagined through the lens of Peruvian chicha. Grupo Sumak ignites the dance floor, driven by shimmering electric guitars and irresistible dance grooves.
The Parkway Council , a not-for-profit organization, works to accelerate the transformation of Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway into a great urban park for all.
