Grupo Luma & Seba Barrientos Trío – A Night of Latin American Music at the British Music ExperienceAs part of La Feria 2025 – The International Festival of Latin American Arts and Culture, Luma Creations presents an extraordinary evening of live music at the British Music Experience. Two remarkable ensembles, Grupo Luma and Seba Barrientos Trío, will come together to share the stage, offering audiences a journey into the rhythms, voices, and textures of Latin America.
This unique concert embodies the festival’s mission to highlight Latin American artistry, strengthen cultural connections, and enrich the region with global perspectives. Audiences can expect an evocative blend of soundscapes, from the raw power of traditional instruments to the delicacy of acoustic folk. Early booking is advised, as this promises to be one of the most powerful and sensory experiences of the season.
Grupo Luma
Led by Chilean brothers Francisco and Oscar Carrasco, Grupo Luma are a six-piece ensemble whose music is rooted in the heritage of Latin America. Their repertoire includes both original works and treasured classics drawn from across the continent, with performances that transport audiences through the landscapes of Chile, Argentina, Peru, and beyond.
The group’s instrumentation is as diverse as its influences: the Andean charango and quena, the Venezuelan cuatro, the Peruvian cajón and Argentinian bombo, trumpet, saxophone, flute, drums, guitar and bass – a kaleidoscope of sound that captures the depth and vitality of the region’s music. Alongside the Carrasco brothers, the band features outstanding musicians Erik Bichard, Jonathan Raisin, P. Max Alder, and Phil Hargreaves.
Francisco and Oscar’s story is one of resilience and creativity. Arriving in the UK as refugees in 1975, they made Liverpool their home and have since graced countless stages both nationally and internationally, including the Durban Carnival, La Linea (London’s Latin Music Festival), and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Their performances have been featured on Channel 4, BBC1, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music and the BBC World Service, cementing their place as torchbearers of Latin American song.
Critics have praised Grupo Luma for their ability to connect audiences with the heartbeat of Latin America: “A feast of melodies, rhythms and powerful, thought-provoking lyrics” (La Linea Festival), “A mesmerising journey” (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall), and “A brilliant beginning” (El Sueño Existe Festival). Their concerts are both a celebration of tradition and a call to progressive change, rooted in the spirit of the Nueva Canción movement.
Seba Barrientos Trío
Joining the line-up is Seba Barrientos, a Chilean singer-songwriter and composer from Puerto Varas. Known for his intricate guitar playing and delicate acoustic style, Barrientos explores the relationship between humanity and the natural world through music. His debut album La Simpleza (2022), which he produced and performed largely single-handedly, was a striking introduction to his artistry.
In 2023, Barrientos formed the Seba Barrientos Trío with accordionist Blaz Argel and flautist Rosi Sáez. Together they create an intimate sound, weaving Chilean and Latin American roots with folk and contemporary influences. Their performances have already captivated audiences at leading venues in southern Chile, and the trio is currently preparing Barrientos’s second studio album, Desde aquí.
With career highlights that include opening for acclaimed artists Pedro Aznar, Ismael Serrano, and Juan Quintero, Barrientos is fast becoming one of Chile’s most compelling new voices. The trio’s live sets are both atmospheric and emotionally resonant, offering audiences a rare glimpse into Chile’s modern songwriting traditions.
A Night Not to Be Missed
This double bill is a celebration of Latin American music in all its richness – from the political resonance of Chilean Nueva Canción to the poetic subtlety of contemporary folk. Set against the backdrop of the British Music Experience, the evening promises both intimacy and grandeur, creating an unforgettable chapter in this year’s La Feria festival.
