Grown-Up Field Trip: Inside Boise’s Geothermal System
About this Event
Ever wonder how heated water helps warm buildings across downtown Boise? Join Keep Boise Cool and the City of Boise geothermal experts for a behind-the-scenes walking tour of the largest municipally operated geothermal system in the country.
We’ll begin near the City’s geothermal injection well in Julia Davis Park, where you’ll learn how geothermal water travels beneath downtown and supports a local, renewable source of heat. From there, we’ll walk to City Hall for a look inside the mechanical room and see how geothermal energy is used inside a public building.
The tour will end at Diablo & Sons, where participants can purchase food or drinks and continue the conversation with City staff during an informal Q&A.
Along the way, you’ll:
- Learn where Boise’s geothermal water comes from and how the system works
- See a geothermal injection well and City Hall’s mechanical equipment
- Explore how geothermal energy reduces reliance on conventional heating fuels
- Hear how Boise is managing this unique natural resource for the future
What You Need to Know
Meeting place: Abraham Lincoln Sitting Statue near Julia Davis Drive and 5th Street
Tour route: Approximately one mile of walking through downtown Boise
Cost: Free and open to the public
Registration: Registration is required, and space is limited. If tickets are sold out, you may still register by joining the Eventbrite waitlist. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration so we can offer your spot to someone on the waitlist. Individuals offered a spot from the waitlist will have 24 hours to claim it before it is offered to the next person.
