Grown-Up Field Trip: Inside Boise’s Compost and Biosolids Systems
About this Event
Follow what happens to two of Boise’s valuable waste streams and learn how they are transformed into resources that support healthier soils.
Join Keep Boise Cool for a behind-the-scenes visit to Twenty Mile South Farm and the City of Boise’s compost facility. We’ll with a classroom overview of how Boise manages biosolids and compost, including where these materials come from, how they are processed, and how they are put to beneficial use.
Although the farm and compost facility are separate operations, both demonstrate how Boise turns materials that might otherwise be treated as waste into useful resources.
This program is part of Keep Boise Cool. Attend any three of these events and log them on cityofboise.org/kbc to be eligible to win an 18-week subscription of fresh, local produce through Global Gardens.
Along the way, you’ll:
- Learn what biosolids are and how Boise safely puts them to beneficial use
- Visit agricultural fields where treated biosolids are applied
- Tour Boise’s compost facility and learn how compost is produced
- Explore the role of compost and biosolids in supporting healthy soils
- See how these programs contribute to Boise’s broader sustainability and resource-recovery goals
