Growing Veggies in Containers (Family Workshop)
(Ages 10–18 and Families / One family per planting station)
Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop with local garden expert Larry Stebbins and learn how to grow fresh vegetables indoors using small containers!
This family-friendly class is designed for one family per planting station and is perfect for beginners or anyone interested in growing food at home. During the workshop, participants will plant three container gardens featuring carrots, lettuce, and microgreens—then take them home to continue growing.
Along the way, you’ll learn about different vegetable varieties and simple techniques that make container gardening easy and successful.
What You'll Learn
- How to grow vegetables indoors in small containers
- How to identify different carrot varieties including Imperator, Danver, Ball (Thumbelina), and Nantes
- Differences between lettuce types such as Romaine, Red Leaf, Green Leaf, and Bibb (Buttercrunch)
- How to grow nutritious microgreens like broccoli, beet, cabbage, and mustard
- How to make and plant seed tapes for easy sowing
What’s Included
Each family will:
- Plant three container vegetable gardens
- Receive microgreen seeds to take home
- Get printed handouts and growing tips
- Take home their planted containers to continue growing indoors
