Growing Up Between Cultures: The International Family Experience
About this Event
For international families in Almere, growing up isn't just about being a teenager — it's about navigating two cultures, sometimes two languages, and a sense of home that can feel split between countries. Almost half of Almere's ~230,000 residents have a migration background, and that shapes what childhood here actually looks like, even though almost nothing has been formally studied about the specific experience of international kids in this city. This session draws on the wider research into what's often called the "third-culture kid" experience — identity, belonging, and the particular loneliness of not quite fitting fully into either culture — and translates it into practical guidance for parents.
What you'll walk away with: A clearer understanding of what your child may be quietly navigating, and concrete ways to support their sense of identity without forcing them to choose between "here" and "there."
