About this Event
Yes, you CAN have a healthy, green lawn in DFW.
NEW! Tired of fighting the brutal North Texas heat and heavy clay soil? Stop guessing and start growing! Achieving a lush, resilient lawn in Dallas requires understanding our unique environment, not just pouring on more water.
NHG is proud to welcome back our new Dallas County Extension Agent Anne LeSenne with this class, as we move beyond the basics to provide a comprehensive guide to turf management specifically for the Dallas area. Whether you are establishing a new lawn or rehabilitating an old one, you will leave with a seasonal game plan to turn your yard into the envy of the neighborhood—sustainably and efficiently.
What You’ll Learn:
• The Big Three: Best practices for Bermuda, St. Augustine, and Zoysia grasses.
• Soil Science: How to amend Dallas "gumbo" clay for deep root systems and better drainage.
• Smart Maintenance: Proper mowing heights, watering schedules, and fertilizer ratios to prevent stress.
• Pest Defense: Identifying and treating common local threats like chinch bugs, grubs, and fungal diseases.
Be with us for this comprehensive look at what it takes to make practical, easy steps to get a green turf in this class. FREE.
NOTE: THIS EVENT IS INDOORS IN OUR CLASSROOM.
Anne LeSenne brings a wealth of knowledge and a whole lot of passion to her work in one of the largest urban areas in Texas. As a Board Certified Master Arborist and Master Beekeeper, Anne is leading innovative programs that promote sustainable gardening, vibrant urban forests and Earth-Kind landscaping.
Her work focuses on everything from edible gardening and beekeeping to supporting the Dallas County Master Gardeners. She’s also helping bring horticulture to life for young Texans through hands-on events like the Urban Farm EXPO in Garland, where kids learn how food grows and how to turn garden harvests into delicious snacks like pesto, pickles and berry crisp!
Anne’s approachable style and love of teaching make her a standout resource for both new and experienced gardeners. Through classes, community outreach and creative demonstrations, she’s inspiring people across Dallas County to grow with confidence and connect with the natural world around them.
