Local organization to break ground on new, accessible home for individuals with developmental disabilities. KANSAS CITY, MO – August 14, 2025 – Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD), a leading provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Kansas City area, is proud to announce a groundbreaking ceremony for a new, accessible home designed to provide safe, inclusive, and supportive living for adults with developmental disabilities.
The ceremony will take place on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at 8110 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138. The event will bring together community supporters, disability providers and individuals who will benefit from this new housing opportunity.
This new home is a crucial step towards addressing the significant need for accessible and affordable housing options for individuals with disabilities in Kansas City, according to Sarah Mudd, CEO for CDD. Many individuals with developmental disabilities struggle to find housing that meets their specific needs and allows them to live as independently as possible.
This project aims to bridge that gap by providing a supportive environment where residents can thrive. "We are incredibly excited to break ground on this new home, which represents our commitment to creating more inclusive and accessible communities for everyone," says Mudd. "This project is about more than just a building; it's about providing a space where individuals can feel safe, valued, and empowered to live fulfilling lives."
The accessible home will feature a built-in ceiling lift system, ramp access, wider doorways, accessible bathrooms, and offer 24/7 staff support, community integration activities and life skills training. The goal is to create a nurturing and engaging environment where residents can develop friendships, pursue hobbies, and actively participate in the community.
