What if learning music was a collectively enriching experience teeming with creativity, passion, and excitement?After 3 amazing seasons, Groove School returns with a dynamic mix of fun, play and education that will develop your musical skills and bring out your fluency in the language of music. And best of all, this year, we've got a little help from our friends...
Our very own musical maestro Jon Handelman will open each session with a collective jam, a group song, and an innovative musical activity. After a short break, an incredible array of talented professional musicians will guide us towards musical mastery! Check out who we've got coming!

Each teacher will creatively touch into the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and harmony while also integrating the subtle, potent elements that make music come alive.
Whether you have years of experience or are new on your journey of musical discovery, this course will joyfully guide and challenge you to:
* Find and ride musical grooves
* Creatively collaborate with other musicians
* Tighten your timing
* Flow and improvise
* Explore vocal expression and harmonies
* Bump up your musical confidence
* Jam out with voice and instruments
This unique offering is a love letter to everyone who feels the power of music deep inside of them. Come be a part of the magic!

Groove School is hosted at Inspire Studios-- a beautiful, two-story, open-space environment in downtown Asheville with great acoustics and a good vibe for music.

Sliding scale of $120-$150, no one turned away for lack of funds.

Your guides:
Jon Handelman is a life coach that has been playing and studying music for over 20 years. He has started regular communal jam meet ups and created and directed traveling musical peace circuses that have performed all throughout South America. Jon regularly hosts jam spaces and teaches voice workshops and song circles at various festivals. In the last 2 years Jon created the Love Song gathering, a 4 day, 300 person event focusing on village building, communal singing, and musical development. Recently, he completed his first musical "Before Long", an interActivist communally driven theatre experience. Alexander Caruso is a multi level musician who's musical style is heavily influenced by eastern sounds and themes, a delay pedal, a variety of myths and legends, and the 'Three Qualities' of proper music - Technique, Emotional Depth, and Imagination. He performs for ecstatic dance events, with belly-dance troupes, in living rooms, for weddings, memorials, random parties, and all manner of ceremonies, with different groups, ensembles, and on his own.

Mattick Frick has been a professional musician for 25 years on percussion, guitars & voice; primarily in traditional dance styles. He loves to explore entrainment in entertainment- magnetizing and drawing forth movement and emotion through music. He has based in Asheville for 16 years and toured extensively across 20 countries, including a bicycle tour from Germany to Sweden.

Katrina (Katt) Lilly is a seasoned vocalist, singer/songwriter, vocal coach, and community organizer with profound spiritual and musical gifts. Her vocal style is flexible but often reflects her Gospel roots with glimmers of R&B, Folk, Reggae, and even Sound Healing. Her voice is incredibly powerful and memorable, her ability to harmonize and improvise is impressive and her performance energy is truly channeled by a Higher Power to say the least. She effortlessly matches the energy in the room as a teacher/performer/song leader and always delivers the exact medicine needed by the crowd. Samara Jade is a multi-instrumentalist folk troubadour - a writer, crafter, performer and producer of soul-centered songs that deliver medicine for the moment in catchy and memorable sonic bundles. Coming from a musical background including jazz, folk, broadway musical and progressive rock, Samara stitches together a unique tapestry of sounds with a sophisticated quality of musicianship distinctly her own. In addition to having released four full-length albums along the way, Samara plays in the Washington-based folk trio Three Wheels Turning and teaches songwriting workshops and community singing circles.
