Please join is for a very special art opening celebrating the art of life-long artist, Bob Burnside! Bob Burnside is a San Francisco-based artist, sculptor, mediator, and community visionary whose life’s work bridges art, education, invention, and social engagement. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Bob began his creative journey teaching art in Harlem following two years of Peace Corps service in Cuzco, Peru.
His sculptural career has flourished nationally, with major works displayed across the United States, including his acclaimed 60 Yardsticks sculpture and a series of wind-powered kinetic installations featured at WindPoweredArt.com. Bob is also the mind behind Geometricks.com, an innovative system blending mathematics, geometry, and play into a new visual language.
Locally, Bob’s vibrant digital art series—featuring more than 400 word combinations—currently illuminates public spaces throughout the Bay Area. His published works, Foraging for Food in San Francisco and The Adventures of Ed the Head, reflect his lifelong belief that creativity fosters learning, laughter, and belonging.
Beyond the studio, Bob has spent over 30 years as a mediator with Community Boards, helping neighbors resolve conflicts through empathy and dialogue. Deeply rooted in the Castro, he founded The Castro Star newspaper, co-created a community garden, managed artist studios at Cellspace, and launched Your Castro Handyman, merging practicality with artistry.
His public installations—such as Most People Are Good People, a wall of 100 faces—embody his unwavering optimism and community spirit. Playful gestures, like drilling holes in sidewalks to “plant” fake poppies, remind us that art can be both whimsical and profound.
Bob’s expansive body of work is documented at BobBurnside.com and in 15 short films on YouTube, celebrating creativity as a bridge between people, art, and place.
