About this Event
Our first theme celebrates authors whose works have been adapted into film. This collection of books by leading black authors highlights the diverse perspectives and experiences of the black community. These works, many of which have been adapted to film, offer a powerful and thought-provoking look at the complexities of race, identity, and history. From James Baldwin's exploration of the black experience in America to Toni Morrison's examination of black women’s experience to Ta-Nehisi Coates' contemporary critics of race, politics, and history, these books push the boundaries of literature and provide a vital lens through which to view the world. As a curator, I hope these books will inspire readers to engage with the issues they raise and deepen their understanding of the black experience.
