The Grey Wails are a group of seasoned musicians playing here on the beautiful NW Coast.The Wails are local favorites in Lincoln County and beyond, frequently playing venues in
Newport, Yachats, and Lincoln City. With a danceable set list of eclectic pop and rock hits
from the 60’s to the present, the Wails are sure to make a splash.
The Wails are:
Jay Arce – Local favorite drummer and vocalist, and the heartbeat of the Wails. Former
bands include EZ Eddy & the Jumpers and Blue Variant.
Malcolm Meikle – Popular bass player and vocalist, Malcolm provides a solid foundation for
the Wails. Former bands include Lisha & the Outlaws, and Blues Variant.
(Majik) Mike LaBare – Rhythm guitar and lead vocals – one of the founding members of the
Wails. Former bands include Cloud Ten and The B.T.U’s
(Jazzy JP) Jim Potts – Lead and rhythm guitars and lead vocals – another founding member.
Former bands include Mixed Company and Willful Blindness.
The Wails were formed in late 2023 when Jim and Mike met at one of the many local Jam
sessions and decided to form a band. Launched in early 2024, they played a number of
shows and developed a good following. But, there was still room for improvement. In early
2025, Malcolm met Jim and was recruited to join. Malcolm knew Jay from their previous
band and brought him to the party. With the new additions, the Wails improved
dramatically and have become one of the most popular bands in the area.
The Wails play tunes from The Beatles, Tom Petty, Van Morrison, The Cars, The Rolling
Stones, The Steve Miller Band, The Travelling Wilburys, and many more. The Grey Wails,
classic rock from the sea. Something to spout about. Come get your Wail on
