Greg Volker is a Minneapolis-based singer/songwriter and guitarist whose music moves effortlessly between long, thick shadows and sudden flashes of light. At times soft and intimate, at others jagged and raw, his songs carry an emotional weight that lingers long after the last note.Often compared to the honest, unruly spirit of Neil Young and the driving, atmospheric sound of My Morning Jacket, Volker’s music also shares deep roots with ’90s alt-country staples like The Jayhawks and Son Volt. Anchored in American roots music, his sound draws from the storytelling tradition of artists such as Gillian Welch and Steve Earle.
After nearly three decades in the San Francisco Bay Area — where he toured extensively and recorded six albums with Deer Crossing, Dirt Road, and Gunpowder — Volker has returned to his hometown of Minneapolis, bringing with him a lifetime of songs shaped by the road.
