GREETINGS FROM: Making session with curator Kelsi Sharp

KELSI SHARP—talented sign painter, community activator, and lover of running—will have a sign painting making session from 6–7:30pm to celebrate the opening reception of her exhibition GREETINGS FROM. Sharp will demonstrate sign painting in Christensen Gallery before having us try it out for ourselves.

This workshop requires pre-registration, so sign up now. And come ready to make!

The opening reception runs from 6–9pm in both Christensen Gallery and Gage Gallery, located one block apart. As part of the opening reception, Sharp will give a brief talk at 7:30pm at the Gage Gallery about her perspectives on signs and how they connect us.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

GREETINGS FROM is a glance at the signs that have shaped the visual identity of Minnesota—signage that denotes the rise of industry and manufacturing, marks idyllic lake retreats and historic riverside towns, and frames metropolitan areas— these artifacts can define our proximity to each other and our shared history.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

Kelsi Sharp is an African American artist from the American Southwest. Growing up along Route 66, her work is strongly influenced by the signage, gas stations, and other relics found on the historic highway. After studying construction methods, earning certifications in fabrication technologies, and apprenticing in an iconic Santa Fe sign shop, Kelsi began Sharp Sign Co., a signage and environmental design company based in the Midwest, with projects all over the country.
