Greenwood Spoon Carving Class

In this 4-session class taught by Wave Pool's Wood shop Manager Scottie Bellissemo, you will learn how to carve a wooden spoon from a branch of a tree that is still green, or wet. The freshly cut branch is much softer and more pliable than dry wood, making it easier to shape and carve. The green wood is also faster and easier to process with hand tools, which is easier on your body.

Each student will have the option of using their own drawing or template of a spoon or be given one as a starting point. The class will involve the use of mostly hand tools and the bandsaw.

Expect to learn how to properly use gauges, whittling knives, draw knives, rasps, and card scrapers. Each spoon will be sanded and finished with a food safe mineral oil.All materials will be supplied for this class. Just bring yourself and your excitement for learning.
