We will leave from the Hughes Metropolitan Complex in Wichita, KS and travel to Tulsa, OK where we will immerse ourselves in the rich history of the Greenwood District, renowned both as a Black business mecca and the site of racial violence. Our day begins at OSU Tulsa with a briefing and video to set the stage for our visit. We’ll then explore the Greenwood Rising exhibit, which tells the powerful story of a community that transformed trials and tragedy into triumph through personal stories of entrepreneurship and resilience. After the exhibit, we will have a wonderful lunch at Fixins Tulsa. Fixins seeks to set the standard for the American soul food experience by offering authentic soul food and impeccable service in a hip, energetic atmosphere. Our journey continues with a visit to John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park in the Historic Greenwood District, a memorial that honors the struggles and rebuilding efforts following the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre with the goal of turning tragedy into triumph by providing a place for reconciliation and understanding. There will be a short stop on the way home for a self-pay snack. Join us for this profound and inspiring day of learning, reflection, and growth. At the end of the day of the day we will return to Wichita, KS. Our travels provided by Village Tours. To register click: www.wichita.edu/communityeducation or call 316-978-3258
