Spend the day supporting native plant restoration work by replanting young plants into larger containers in Rocky's greenhouse.
About this Event

Project Description:

Work alongside Rocky Mountain National Park greenhouse staff to transplant young nursery plants into larger containers for use in native plant restoration projects. Transplant various species of grasses and forbs that will help restore disturbances in meadows, wetlands, forests, and the alpine tundra! Nursery transplants were propagated in Rocky’s greenhouse and sourced by seed collected within the park to preserve specific adaptations that allow plants to persist in Rocky’s climate. Get your hands dirty and be a part of preserving Rocky’s diverse landscape!

What to Expect:

Transplanting will occur at Rocky’s native plant greenhouse/nursery located at an elevation of around 8,000 ft. Work is sedentary and repetitive as transplanting is done while sitting. Light to moderate lifting of plant trays and pots will be required as well as moving wheelbarrows of soil over short distances (10-20 ft.) Shade structures are provided to work under if outside, but be prepared for variable weather conditions (sun, wind, heat, cold, light rain). If weather is not conducive for working outside, transplanting will occur inside the greenhouse.

Minimum age: 18 years

Dates (weather permitting): Thursday, May 28, 2026

Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm. Volunteers should plan to stay for the full duration of this event.

Parking/meeting location: Please meet in the outdoor plaza in front of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. From there we will walk to the greenhouse about ¼ mile away down a paved path on a gentle to moderate hillside.

Work site: RMNP Greenhouse/Nursery

Nearest bathroom: Office building near Greenhouse

Gear to bring: Layers (it can be hot or snow, even on the same day), rain gear, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), gloves (if you prefer your own), day pack, lunch and snacks, and water.

Note: Each date has a minimum requirement of 3 volunteers and a maximum of 8. If your desired date does not meet the minimum group requirement, we will try to reschedule you for another date.
