A guided walking tour exploring the stories of women involved in the development of two beloved resort towns on the North Wales Coast

A day-long walking tour by rail taking in two beloved resort towns on the North Wales Coast and exploring the stories of several women involved in their development from small fishing villages to their Victorian heyday and beyond.

The tour will begin outside Prestatyn Railway Station before crossing over to the town centre. The walk will then follow the Offa’s Dyke path up the scenic high street to the church before returning to the station for the train to Llandudno. Along the way you’ll hear stories of some feisty footballing women, a family of pioneers of women’s rights and other tales of women’s lives in this area, settled since Roman times.

After a scenic train journey, you’ll arrive in Llandudno, the Queen of Victorian resorts, in time for lunch at a local venue. Then it’s time for a walk through the 19th century town centre and along the famous promenade. Your guide will share stories of women from across several thousand years of settlement in this beautiful bay, from pre-history through to the modern day. They’ll include artists, politicians, foreign Royals and a certain traveller in Wonderland. Finally, you’ll take the train back to Prestatyn, where the tour ends.

Llandudno 1hr 20 mins – 1.5 miles/2.4 km

Accessibility:

Prestatyn - Lifts to reach central platforms and ticket offices – also ramps to outer platforms & bridge. Steep slopes, steps and some uneven surfaces on walk in Prestatyn.

Llandudno - Accessible platforms in Llandudno – lift at lunch venue – flat but some uneven surfaces on walk.

• The tour, including rail travel and lunch is all free but you must book a free ticket via Eventbrite.

• Please wear suitable footwear and weather appropriate clothing. If you have any mobility issues or other accessibility concerns, please e-mail [email protected] before booking to ensure the route can be adjusted accordingly.
• The walk is not intended for children, although may be suitable for older teenagers with an interest in the subject. Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.
• If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite, we may be able to offer your space to someone on the waitlist.
• Photography and filming will take place at this event for promotional purposes, which may include use on social media, in marketing materials, on our website, and in press coverage. If you would prefer not to appear in any photographs or video footage, please inform a member of staff on the day.

‘Greener Routes’ has been funded by Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales and delivered by the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership.

The tours celebrate the stories, people and places that connect communities along the rail network. Each tour is guided by accredited Green Badge Tour Guides, with participants travelling by train or bus between destinations and enjoying a locally sourced lunch along the way.
