About this Event

Located in Milwaukee’s 30th Street Industrial Corridor, Green Tech Station is a catalytic brownfield redevelopment project featuring all different types of green infrastructure in one place, transforming the 3-acre lot into an environmental education destination for school groups and the broader community to learn about stormwater management and sustainable technologies.

Green Tech Station uniquely showcases solutions to several problems, including cleaning up an abandoned brownfield site, adding over 115,000 gallons of stormwater capacity in a part of the City that is prone to flooding, creating an outdoor classroom space for field trips and tours, and generating solar power with an 8.88 kilowatt photovoltaic array on the roof of the pavilion. The site also serves as an innovative venue for research and side-by-side testing of different green technologies.

On the tour, you'll see all different types of green infrastructure, including:

  • Four bioswales
  • 465+ trees
  • A 20,000 gallon underground cistern
  • Native prairie
  • Constructed wetland
  • Research test plaza with various groundcovers
  • Rain garden & rain barrel
  • StormGUARDen

Art is also a major part of Green Tech Station's identity. ArtWorks for Milwaukee high school interns created a 16-panel bottle cap mosaic on the exterior fence and have painted 22 benches featuring a variety of water themes which remain on site to support field trips. Artist Glenn Williams has also installed two 8’ tall African water vessel-inspired sculptures to flank the southern loop of paths. His work, part of the Citywide WaterMarks effort, was followed by the installation of a 25’ tall WaterMarker pole with the letter G at the top. The letter was selected by community members and stands for: Gather, Growth, Grit, Garden Homes, and Green infrastructure and is the first WaterMarker on Milwaukee’s North Side.

Join us on a guided tour, and see the space for yourself during Doors Open on Saturday, September 28th!
