OPPD: Eric “Mr. E” BenSalah
Eric BenSalah is an Energy Advisor and educator for OPPD. For the last six years, Eric has been with the Product Development and Marketing team. In his current position he has revamped the Energy Efficiency webpages at oppd.com/EE and launched the Energy Education Program www.oppd.com/EnergyEd, teaching energy-related classes to over 2,500 students a year, from grade school to high school. In his free time, Eric has been playing drums for 28 years; is an avid reader of fiction, philosophy, astronomy, psychology and all things strange. He’s married to his wife Angie and they have two dogs, Flapjack and Waffles. He will provide insight on energy efficiency, energy conservation, how to reduce energy usage and by proxy, reduce your carbon footprint, on an individual scale.
Exist Green: Leigh Neary, an environmental engineer, will speak on the importance of a low/no-waste business model and its impacts on your health and the environment. Spending a decade cleaning up contaminated sites, Neary became frustrated by the relentless cycle of pollution. She began to view waste as more than what “goes into the bin.” In her eyes, it’s also what flows down the drain and the upstream effects as the result of our purchases. Neary started by doing the work to reduce her personal exposure to petroleum-based products and shrink her overall footprint. Shortly after, in May 2019, she launched Exist Green - located at 4919 Underwood Avenue in Omaha’s Dundee neighborhood. As the first zero-waste market in the Midwest, Exist Green empowers others to make thoughtful, low-impact choices that protect personal health and the planet.
