Green Card Voices is a Minneapolis based, nationally growing non profit that connects immigrants and their communities through multimedia storytelling. We record the first person narratives of immigrants, and publish them in books, online and in traveling exhibits. So far we have recorded the stories of over 500 immigrants and refugees who are originally from over 140 countries and who now reside in Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, California, North Dakota, Georgia and Wisconsin.
About Immigration Stories from Chicago High Schools: Green Card Youth Voices:
Using a trauma-informed approach to gathering stories, this unique collection of 30 stories illuminates the range of challenges and successes met by the latest generation of immigrants attending Stevenson and Sullivan High Schools. Through their own voices, these digital and written stories showcase the resilience and courage required to overcome significant challenges and integrate into American society. "Green Card Youth Voices: Immigration Stories from Chicago High Schools" serves as a valuable resource for a diverse audience: from students and book club members to individuals curious about their new immigrant neighbors. The inclusion of video links, a glossary, maps, and a study guide enhances the multimedia aspect of this compelling collection.
Accessibility: This event is hosted at the bookstore, which is a wheelchair accessible space. Masks are strongly encouraged. We have one industrial air purifier, two smaller air purifiers, and four ceiling fans installed throughout the store. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
