On June 6th at 7 PM, cultural musicologist Nikos Ordoulidis will present his book, published by Bloomsbury Academic, which explores the intersections of music, politics, and national identity in Greece. Through a detailed examination of Greek folk-popular music, the book analyses its relationship with Byzantine tradition, scholarly discourse, and ideological narratives. It further investigates how music has been shaped by and, in turn, has influenced political and cultural frameworks. The presentation will offer an opportunity to engage with these themes and discuss the broader implications of music as a historical and social force. The event is open to all—whether you are a musician, a history enthusiast, or simply curious about how music reflects society.
Nikos Ordoulidis is a cultural musicologist and musician. He holds a PhD in Music from the University of Leeds and has taught at the University of Ioannina and the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus in Greece. His research and published works center on musical syncretism, examining the social and historical contexts that shape the musics he studies, with an emphasis on cultural exchange.
June 6th at 7pm. Free entrance.
