In celebration of Pride Month and the launch of a new exhibition, the Hellenic Museum is proud to announce the return of its previously sold out, one-night-only event, Greek Love.
Greco-Roman myths and histories continue to be a popular medium through which human diversity is portrayed, and modern LBGTQ+ communities are approaching myths and histories with a unique lens, drawing out and decoding threads of sexuality, gender and queerness.
Join the Hellenic Museum for an evening of history talks, creative collaboration and fun as we explore contemporary revelations of queerness in the ancient Mediterranean. Grab a drink and wander the galleries before you settle in for a series of engaging but light-hearted presentations from queer classicists, historians and artists.
Alongside these talks, the evening marks the opening of Greek Love: Outside the Lines, an interactive exhibition in which the walls of the Hellenic Museum Contemporary Art Space will become a large scale paint-by-numbers. Once completed by visitors, the final artwork is a vibrant, ancient-Greek inspired illustration by queer Australian artist Mayticks. Guests of Greek Love: The Event will have the exclusive opportunity to make the first mark, and hear from the artist herself.
Event schedule and speaker announcements coming soon.
Tickets include light canapés. Cash bar available.
Supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.
