You are invited to dive deep into an intimate community gathering rooted in the ancient African tradition of the *griot—the keeper of memory, history, and collective wisdom through spoken word. This offering invites both newer and longstanding members of the OVRHL and greater Oakland community to come together, meet one another, and be nourished by the medicine of story.

Stirring together essential ingredients of grounded presence, guided breathwork, and shared dialogue, we’ll craft a rich stew for some yummy listening and reflection. Moses and Viva, co-owners and stewards of OVRHL (a new and bustling movement-based wellness center in the heart of Downtown Oakland) will weave stories from their travels and lived experiences, allowing us to witness the wisdom and transformation they’ve explored through travels to Nigeria, India, and Nicaragua. Their offerings often open space for communal inquiry, aiming to melt and blur the places where personal truths and collective memory coexist.

Let this evening be an invitation to community in practice as we cross pollinate the stories of the journeys that have led us all here. Join us for a dope opportunity to feel more deeply connected to the beautiful souls who make övrhl feel like home.

*Griot is a french word that translates to servant and has been used historically to describe storytelling traditions from across West Africa. We share this history to highlight the contradictions that surround us all; to orient ourselves in this gathering as a place where we hold each other in making sense of our own contradictions.
