About the Artist
Yusef Ferguson is an American filmmaker, visual artist, educator, and learner whose practice explores the intersections of spirituality, history, science, and culture. His work examines dichotomies—living and dead, seen and unseen, natural and unnatural—as parables for lived experience. Committed to function over form, he investigates how film can extend beyond the screen to more deeply engage viewers. He is also invested in the archive as a tool of cultural preservation and as a digital griot. Ferguson received the 2024 Tina Perry and Rick Whitney Grant for his forthcoming project Sanguine. He was a member of the 2023 inaugural Netflix Documentary Archival Research Training Program and a 2023 Princess Grace Award Finalist. His work has been exhibited at The Broadwater, the California Institute of the Arts, and the William Roland Gallery. In 2021, he served as cinematographer for the Atlanta edition of If Cities Could Dance, which won a Southeast Emmy for Best Short Form Content.
