About this Event

May selection: Othello, a play by William Shakespeare

Othello is a gripping tragedy about a respected Moorish general in Venice whose life unravels when his manipulative ensign, Iago, convinces him that his loyal wife, Desdemona, has been unfaithful; consumed by jealousy and insecurity, Othello descends into suspicion and ultimately commits irreversible acts that expose the devastating power of deceit.

Othello is widely considered one of Shakespeare's greatest works and is usually classified among his major tragedies alongside , , and . It’s a must-read because it dives deeply into timeless human themes—trust, jealousy, race, ambition, and psychological manipulation—while showcasing Shakespeare’s ability to build tension and complex characters; even today, the story feels uncomfortably relevant in how easily perception can be twisted into destructive belief.
