The Great Pyrenees Charity Golf Tournament is an annual event that unites golf enthusiasts, community members, and businesses for a day of friendly competition and philanthropy. Since its inception in 2019, our tournament has grown significantly. From 60 golfers raising $5,000 to 97 golfers raising over $22,000 in 2024. This growth is thanks to the generous support of sponsors and donors like you. All funds raised support The Great Pyrenees Club of Western PA Rescue. The GPCWP is an all-volunteer, foster-based 501c3 organization: 71-0881142.

“Our Mission” is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Great Pyrenees that are owner-surrenders or rescued from local shelters or humane agents, and to promote responsible pet ownership. Great Pyrenees are our main focus but we also rescue Pyr-mixes and other giant breeds.”

The GPCWP relies solely on donations and fundraisers, with all proceeds going directly to the care of the dogs in rescue. All care, including food, vet services, and training, when necessary, is paid for by the GPCWP. Each dog is thoroughly vetted and evaluated before being placed for adoption, with the average cost per dog ranging from $500 to $600. This year has been a very trying time. Adoptions have slowed but the number of dogs needing our help continues to grow. Rescuing giant breeds comes with its own set of challenges: Their furry coats and giant size (averaging 110 lbs. for females, 125 lbs. for males) can be drawbacks. Finding appropriate fosters and adopters is not always easy. Supporting our rescue not only helps the dogs but also strengthens the community and promotes a culture of compassion and responsibility. This year’s tournament will be held on August 25, 2025, at Edgewood Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA., and will feature lunch, golf with a cart, snacks and beverages on the course, and dinner following the tournament. Attendees can look forward to skill contests, raffle prizes, golfer goody bags and shirts, registration games, and tournament prizes. Our goal is to register 100-130 attendees.

Our advertising efforts will have a broad reach, including printed materials, print and online ads in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Tribune-Review, and Penn Live, and promotion through our Facebook page with over 11,217 followers. Our event page on Facebook has 274 followers and growing, with our Save the Date post reaching 1746 people in one day. We will also utilize online event pages such as Yelp, Eventbrite, and Eventful.
